The Journey
A series of Journalistic Art Books 1993~Present
A journal is a personal record of occurrences, experiences, and reflections kept on a regular basis; a diary.
Represented here are selected pages from my series of journalistic art books entitled “The Journey”. I created my first journalistic art book in 1993 while living in East and Central Africa and in the following years to present date, I have completed 10 books (4 whose selected pages are represented below) Their titles are as followed; Not With Forces Intangible, U’ve Created A Monster, Covered In Hibiscus, Soul As Naked As Flesh Is Bare, The Winds Blow Tonight, Issaac & Dharamshala, U Stop At A Traffic Light, My Fern My Foot, The Gingko Tree, & My Bamboo.
In these journalistic art books I put my most personal and un-edited visual impressions, they are layered one upon the other free of external or internal judgments. There is no attempt at telling a particular story, these books are simply a place to put everything I see, experience & feel about the worlds around me, in my own visual language. Within the pages of these books lye the sum total of my entire studio work incorporating the many different genre and media that I enlist in the creative process. They are my intuitive drawings in graphite, ink, pastel & charcoal layered with reproductions of selected previous works, fabric from my own garments, paintings in oil & acrylic, my photo essays, my mono & block prints and text~ the text is stream of consciousness, prose, rants, commentary and prayer. All of these works are on paper, canvas & board. I bind all of the books myself and in the most recent books (currently in progress) I am using hand made paper that I make in studio with recycled materials. These books are all about the process, the beginning the middle and the end.
